Another Stakeout
Short description
Another Stakeout is a 1993 action comedy following two Seattle detectives, Chris Lecce and Bill Reimers, who are assigned to watch a lakeside house where a key witness in a Mafia trial is thought to be hiding. Their assignment is complicated by the arrival of Gina Garrett, an assistant district attorney sent to join the operation, along with her large rottweiler. The mismatched trio pose as a family while keeping the witness under surveillance, and their personalities and methods clash along the way. The film is a sequel to Stakeout, with Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez returning as the two detectives, joined by Rosie O'Donnell as Gina. Dennis Farina, Miguel Ferrer and Cathy Moriarty also appear in the cast of thirty-eight.
John Badham directed the film from a screenplay by Jim Kouf and Lynn Kouf, who also produced it with Cathleen Summers. It was Badham's eleventh film as director in chronological order, following Point of No Return in 1993 and preceding Drop Zone in 1994. Made on a budget of about 30 million dollars, it took in roughly 20 million dollars worldwide, a modest return against its cost.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.6 from around 16,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 5.4 from roughly 259 votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 from twenty-four reviews places it below both audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- Richard Dreyfuss, who plays Chris, repeats the phrase while standing in front of drying underwear: “And I don’t like hung-up underwear.” His Oscar-winning character Elliot from “Goodbye, Darling” (1977) also uttered this phrase.
- When Luella passes by the television in the safe house, the film “Surveillance” (1987) is visible on the screen.
- Sharon Maughan said in an interview that a large part of her role was cut during editing.
- Rosie O'Donnell appears in this film alongside Miguel Ferrer. When she later hosted her own talk show, she had Ferrer’s mother, Rosemary Clooney, and his cousin George Clooney as guests.
- When Chris follows Bill, who is being held in the trunk of a car, the folding roof of Chris’s Mercedes SL, which is down in almost all scenes, is seen raised when the car is shown in close-up (this is visible from the rear window).
- In the opening scene at the casino, a working vacuum cleaner is clearly audible, but judging by its bag, it is turned off.
- When the fuel truck explodes, it is visible that it has no engine.
