Short description
Lethal Weapon 4 is a 1998 American action comedy crime thriller directed by Richard Donner. It is the fourth film in the Lethal Weapon series. The story follows LAPD detectives Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover), who are both facing personal changes: Riggs is about to become a father with Lorna Cole (Rene Russo), while Murtaugh is anticipating his first grandchild. Their friend and informant Leo Getz (Joe Pesci) is along for the ride, and a young detective, Lee Butters (Chris Rock), becomes involved in the case. The investigation pulls them into a confrontation with a Chinese crime syndicate operating in Los Angeles, and a deadly enforcer played by Jet Li. The screenplay is by Channing Gibson, and the film was produced by Joel Silver and Richard Donner.
The film sits at position fifteen in Donner's eighteen directed films, following Conspiracy Theory in 1997 and preceding Timeline in 2003. It features a large production with 99 credited cast members and 165 credited crew. The budget was 140 million USD, and the worldwide box office reached 285 million USD, a return that still fell short of doubling the production cost.
