The Ferpect Crime

Rafael González works in the women's department of a large department store and is convinced he is destined for better things. He enjoys the finer side of life and has a knack for selling, but his ambitions focus on one goal: becoming the new floor manager. Standing in his way is Don Antonio, a long-serving colleague who runs the men's department and eventually wins the promotion instead. A heated argument between the two men ends with Don Antonio dead, apparently by accident, and Rafael believes he has escaped blame.

The only witness is Lourdes, a coworker who has long been infatuated with him and who decides to use what she saw to her advantage. She pressures Rafael into a relationship that turns into marriage and a kind of servitude, and he begins looking for a way out. The film is a black comedy directed by Álex de la Iglesia, the fifth of the thirteen features listed for him, coming between 800 Bullets and The Oxford Murders. He wrote the screenplay with Jorge Guerricaechevarría, and Guillermo Toledo and Mónica Cervera lead a credited cast of forty-one, among them Luis Varela, Enrique Villén, Fernando Tejero and Javier Gutiérrez.

Made for about six million dollars, it took roughly nine million worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 365 votes.
