Short description
Jerry Robinson has just been dumped by his girlfriend Felicia, so his friend Nick talks him into a cruise to take his mind off things and meet women. Once on board, the two discover they have been booked on a gay cruise, a mix-up arranged by a travel agent with a grudge against Nick. Jerry later meets Gabriella, a dance instructor, and begins to fall for her, which complicates matters further.
The comedy was directed by Mort Nathan, who also wrote the screenplay with William Bigelow. It is the first of the two films Nathan has directed, ahead of Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj. Cuba Gooding Jr. plays Jerry, with Horatio Sanz as Nick, Roselyn Sánchez as Gabriella, Vivica A. Fox as Felicia and Roger Moore as Lloyd Faversham. The production, made across Germany, the United States and France, cost around 20 million dollars and returned roughly 15 million worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 4.9 from about 33,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.2 from a much smaller number of votes. A film critics' rating of 3.1 from 87 reviews places it below both audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- The entire film was shot in Cologne (Germany) and on a cruise liner departing from Athens (Greece). During filming, the liner made stops in Alexandria, Istanbul and Rhodes. Scenes on the island were filmed on the Greek island of Hydra.
- Sir Roger Moore starred in the film for a fee and a paid vacation.
- The artist of the painting, Charles William Brin (1953-2018), built the sets for a cruise liner in a film studio in Cologne, Germany.
