The Crow
Short description
Eric and Shelly meet in a rehabilitation clinic, drawn together while both are struggling with difficult circumstances. Their relationship is cut short when they are killed by men connected to Shelly's past and to Vincent Roeg, a powerful and dangerous figure. Eric is offered a way back: he can return as a being caught between the living and the dead, and use that existence to hunt down the people responsible for what happened to them.
The film is based on James O'Barr's comic and is directed by Rupert Sanders, whose earlier features are D-Minus, Snow White and the Huntsman and Ghost in the Shell. Bill Skarsgård plays Eric, with FKA Twigs as Shelly, Danny Huston as Vincent Roeg, and supporting turns from Josette Simon, Laura Birn and Sami Bouajila. It is a Germany, United Kingdom, United States and France co-production, backed by a budget of about 50 million USD, and it earned roughly 24 million USD worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds a 7.9 rating from a small number of votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8 from a considerably larger voter base, a gap that reflects how divided early responses have been.
What's left behind the scenes
- Director Stephen Norrington took on the project in 2008 as director and screenwriter; a new approach to the mythology was chosen, focusing on a new set of symbols.
