The film version shown in May 2024 at the Cannes Film Festival was 166 minutes long. The version released in cinemas in October of the same year ran for 161 minutes. Director and screenwriter Gilles Lelouch later revealed that he was still editing the film just a couple of days before its release, and that he had completely cut three scenes – a dance at the end of the film and scenes in which Clotier breaks down and trashes Jackie’s house, while simultaneously begging her to talk to him.
At the same time that French media reported that a total of one million tickets had been sold for the film, film fans posted pictures of almost empty cinema halls on social media across France (almost 1,000 cinemas across the country and the first four weeks of the film's release). The film's director and lead actors even reposted some of these photos.
