Elizabethtown

Drew Baylor designs athletic shoes, and his latest creation is a disaster: the product flops on arrival and costs his company hundreds of millions, ending his job and his relationship with his girlfriend in the same stretch. Just as he has run out of reasons to keep going, his father dies, and Drew has to fly to Elizabethtown, Kentucky, to handle the funeral arrangements and deal with his grieving family. On the flight he meets Claire Colburn, a flight attendant whose company changes the trip he was dreading, and the days in his hometown gradually pull him out of his spiral.

Cameron Crowe wrote and directed the film, the sixth in his directing career after Say Anything..., Singles, Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous and Vanilla Sky, and he produced it with Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner. Orlando Bloom plays Drew and Kirsten Dunst plays Claire, with Susan Sarandon as his mother Hollie, Judy Greer as his sister Heather, and Alec Baldwin and Bruce McGill among the large supporting cast.

Made for around 45 million dollars, the film took in roughly 52 million worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from about 75,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 from a much smaller 1,224 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5 out of 10 across 175 reviews, so audiences have been a little warmer toward it than reviewers.
