After the members of Mystery Inc. go their separate ways, each of them receives an invitation to Spooky Island, a resort and amusement park whose owner, Emile Mondavarious, wants them to look into a series of strange incidents frightening away his guests. The five reunite to investigate, with Scooby and Shaggy at the centre of the case. The film adapts the characters from the Hanna-Barbera animated series, mixing comedy and mystery as the group works to explain what is happening on the island.

Raja Gosnell directed the film, the fourth feature in the directing run listed for him, following Home Alone 3, Never Been Kissed and Big Momma's House, and preceding Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. James Gunn wrote the screenplay, and Charles Roven and Richard Suckle produced it for Warner Bros. Pictures and Mosaic Media Group. Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini play Fred, Daphne, Shaggy and Velma, with Neil Fanning providing the voice of Scooby and Rowan Atkinson appearing as Mondavarious. Around 51 cast members and 211 crew members are credited.

Made for a budget of 84 million dollars, the film took about 276 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its cost. On IMDb it holds 5.4 out of 10 from roughly 140,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from a much smaller voter base. A critics' rating of 4.7 out of 10 from 146 reviews places it below both audience scores.
