Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Sustainable War

Set in 2045, this science fiction animation takes place after a global economic collapse. The subsequent rise of artificial intelligence has led to a period of continuous conflict known as the Sustainable War, though the general public remains unaware of the danger AI poses to humanity. Motoko Kusanagi and the members of Section 9 operate as mercenaries on the American West Coast, where they encounter a post-human entity that surpasses the capabilities of cyborgs. This film is a compilation of the first season of SAC_2045 featuring additional footage.

The production was a collaboration between Production I.G, FlyingDog, and Sola Digital Arts. It was co-directed by Kenji Kamiyama, Shinji Aramaki, and Michihito Fujii. For Kamiyama, this followed seven previous feature projects, while for Aramaki, it followed eight. This project marked the directorial debut for Fujii. The screenplay was written by Kamiyama along with Dai Sato and Kurasumi Sunayama. The voice cast includes Atsuko Tanaka, Osamu Saka, Akio Otsuka, Koichi Yamadera, Yutaka Nakano, and Toru Okawa.

Audience reception is mixed, with a 6.8 rating on TMDB from 82 votes and a 5.9 rating on IMDb from 631 votes. These viewers rated the film more favorably than critics, who provided a rating of 3.3 from 5 reviews.
