The Woodsman

Walter has served twelve years in prison for a sexual offence against a child and returns to his hometown to rebuild his life. His sister wants nothing to do with him, and most people who learn about his past keep their distance. Only his brother-in-law Carlos stands by him, helping him find a place to live and a job at a lumber mill. Walter keeps to himself and reports to his parole officer, while a detective named Lucas watches him closely. At work he begins a cautious relationship with a coworker, Vicki, who does not judge him for what he did. His fragile routine is shaken when he befriends a young girl he meets in a park and becomes convinced that a man hanging around a schoolyard is preying on children.

The Woodsman is an American crime drama directed by Nicole Kassell, who wrote the screenplay with Steven Fechter. It was her first feature, followed years later by A Little Bit of Heaven. Kevin Bacon plays Walter, with Kyra Sedgwick as Vicki, Benjamin Bratt as Carlos, Eve as Mary-Kay, David Alan Grier as Bob and Carlos Leon as Pedro. Lee Daniels produced through Lee Daniels Entertainment and Dash Films. Made for about four million dollars, the film took roughly five million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.8/10 from 542 votes.
