Bubba Ho-tep

Bubba Ho-tep is a 2002 comedy horror film written and directed by Don Coscarelli, based on a short story by Joe R. Lansdale. It follows an elderly man living in an East Texas nursing home who claims to be Elvis Presley. According to his account, he swapped identities with an impersonator years earlier, intending to switch back later, but lost the chance to do so and ended up in the home under the other man's name. There he befriends a fellow resident who insists he is John F. Kennedy. When a sinister force preying on the residents makes itself known, the two men set out to confront it.

Bruce Campbell plays the man who says he is Elvis, and Ossie Davis plays his friend. Ella Joyce, Heidi Marnhout, Bob Ivy and Edith Jefferson appear in supporting roles. The film was produced by Coscarelli with Jason R. Savage and Ronnie Truss.

The film was made for about 1 million USD and took in roughly the same amount at the worldwide box office, a modest return for a release of this scale. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.8 out of 10 from 104 reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 726 votes, putting the critical and audience responses in the same broad range. It sits between Phantasm IV: Oblivion (1998) and Incident On and Off a Mountain Road (2005) in Coscarelli's filmography.
