Bad Boys

Two Miami narcotics detectives, Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey, are as different as partners can be. Marcus is a married family man with a modest home life, while Mike is a wealthy bachelor who enjoys the perks of his inheritance. When a large shipment of seized heroin is stolen from inside police custody, their unit is given a deadline: find the drugs or the department will be shut down. The only person who can identify the thieves is a witness who will talk to Mike alone, forcing the two friends to switch identities to keep her cooperation.

Michael Bay directed the film, the first of the fifteen features he has made, followed by The Rock in 1996. Doug Richardson, Michael Barrie and Jim Mulholland wrote the screenplay, and Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson produced it for Columbia Pictures. Will Smith plays Mike and Martin Lawrence plays Marcus, with Téa Leoni as the witness Julie Mott, Tchéky Karyo as Fouchet, Joe Pantoliano as Captain Howard and Theresa Randle as Theresa Burnett. The production cost about 19 million dollars and took in roughly 141 million worldwide, a strong return for an action comedy of its size. On IMDb it holds 6.8 out of 10 from around 314,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.8 out of 10 from more than 7,000 votes. A critics' rating of 5.5 out of 10 from 70 reviews places it below the audience scores.
