Sharks' Treasure is an adventure film about a charter boat captain, Jim Carnahan, who sets out to recover treasure from a Spanish galleon sunk in the Caribbean. After confirming the wreck holds real riches, he mortgages his boat to fund the expedition and assembles a small crew that includes former navy divers. The search brings them to waters swarming with sharks, and once the treasure is within reach, a gang of criminals also wants it, turning the hunt into a contest between the crew, the sea and their own competing desires.
Cornel Wilde directed the film and also wrote and produced it, taking the lead role of Jim Carnahan. The cast includes Yaphet Kotto as Ben Flynn, David Canary as Larry, Cliff Osmond as Lobo, David Gilliam as Juanito and John Neilson as Ron. It was Wilde's third film as director, following Maracaibo in 1958 and Beach Red in 1967.
Released in April 1975, the film runs 95 minutes and was made by United Artists with Symbol Productions, shooting in the United States and the Netherlands Antilles. It took about 2 million dollars at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.8 from around 530 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 5.3 from a small number of votes, indicating a limited and largely unenthusiastic audience response.
