Filming took place in Los Angeles from July 7 to August 7, 1997.
Film critic Roger Ebert disliked this film so much that he publicly eviscerated it while discussing the films presented to audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival in the fall of 1998 on Siskel & Ebert. Ebert especially complained about the abundance of racial stereotypes and scenes of unprovoked violence in the film. The film had only a brief theatrical run and by 1999 was available exclusively on video cassettes and cable television.
Paula Marshall began filming with Skip Woods as soon as she finished filming a season of the popular television series " Twisted City" (1996-2002) starring Michael J. Fox. In "Bloody Thursday," she wears the same hairstyle and dress as in the series (with the exception of flashbacks).
