Nicky and Gabriel have built a life together over more than a decade of marriage, raising their young son Owen in what appears from the outside to be a comfortable, settled family. When Gabriel files for divorce, that life comes apart, and the two men find themselves in a custody dispute over Owen while each tries to work out what went wrong and what he still owes the other.
Bill Oliver directed and co-wrote the film with Peter Nickowitz, following his earlier feature Jonathan. Luke Evans plays Nicky and Billy Porter plays Gabriel, with Christopher Woodley as Owen. Andrew Rannells, Robin Weigert and Kate Burton appear in supporting roles. The production was handled by Slated and Tigresa, and the film runs 104 minutes.
Our Son drew a mixed response. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.9 from around 1,600 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.3 from a much smaller base of 18 votes. A critics' score of 6.4 from 28 reviews places professional assessment above the larger audience sample, though all three figures point to a modest reception rather than a broadly enthusiastic one.
