Short description
Becky Connor and her friend Hunter share a taste for extreme climbs, but a climbing accident that kills Becky's husband Dan leaves her grief-stricken and drinking heavily. About a year later, Hunter, who was with them that day, reappears with a proposal meant to help Becky move forward: scale a remote, long-abandoned radio tower and scatter Dan's ashes from the top. The structure is one of the tallest in the United States, standing roughly 600 metres above the ground, and the two women soon find themselves stranded on its upper reaches with no way back down and no help within reach. What follows is a struggle to survive exposure, dwindling supplies and the sheer drop beneath them.
Fall is a British-American action thriller directed by Scott Mann, who wrote the screenplay with Jonathan Frank and also produced alongside James Harris and Christian Mercuri. It is the fourth feature Mann directed, arriving after The Tournament, Heist and Final Score. Grace Caroline Currey plays Becky, Virginia Gardner plays Hunter, Mason Gooding appears as Dan, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays James Conner, with Jasper Cole and Darrell Dennis also in the cast.
Made for about 3 million dollars, the film took roughly 18 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 140,000 votes; on TMDB it stands at 7.1 from close to 5,000 votes. A critics' rating of 6.4 from 151 reviews places it in line with the IMDb audience score.
What's left behind the scenes
- Filming took place in the Mojave Desert.
- At the 49th minute, as Hunter climbs the ladder with the rope to which the phone is tied, she holds it in her right hand, but in the next shot the rope is already in her left.
- In the 81st minute, as Becky is charging the drone on top of the mast and is attacked by a scavenger, the lampshade is screwed on and in place, even though she had unscrewed it earlier.
- Due to the low budget, the director could not afford reshoots. To lower the rating from R to PG-13, over 30 instances of the word "fuck" were removed from the film in post-production.
