Nenette and Boni are teenage siblings who grew up apart after their parents divorced. Their mother, who favoured Boni, has died, and the two have been raised on separate sides of the family rift. Boni works as a pizza maker in Marseille and keeps to a small, inherited house, avoiding his father Félix, who is raising fifteen-year-old Nenette. She climbs over the wall of her school and turns up at her brother's door, where he is not pleased to find her. Her arrival disrupts the routines he has settled into, and the siblings have to work out what they now owe each other.
The film was directed by Claire Denis, her second feature in a run of fifteen, following Chocolat and preceding Beau Travail. The screenplay is by Denis with Jean-Pol Fargeau, and Georges Benayoun produced it through La Sept Cinéma and Dacia Films. Grégoire Colin plays Boni and Alice Houri plays Nenette, with Jacques Nolot, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Vincent Gallo and Alex Descas among the supporting cast. Running 99 minutes, it is a French drama.
Among viewers, the film holds a 6.9 rating on IMDb from around 2,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5 from a much smaller number of votes. The wider sample on IMDb suggests a reasonably well-regarded film, whereas the TMDB figure rests on too few votes to read as a settled verdict.
