What's left behind the scenes
- Work on the project began as early as 2012, but it was constantly slowed down by funding issues. The French company Le Pacte agreed to take on the project after the screening of Sean Baker's 'Red Rocket' at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
- According to director and screenwriter Zou Shijing, the idea for the film came to her while remembering her childhood and how her grandfather advised her not to do anything with her left hand.
- Director and screenwriter Zou Shijing found actress Ma Shiyuan, who played Yan, on social media.
