He grew up in El Paso, TX and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Earth Sciences from Rice University and a Masters of Science degree in Geology/Geophysics from University of Texas at El Paso. He and his wife and partner Riki Rushing split their time between Texas, New Mexico, or Mexico.
