Season	Episodes	Release date	Rating
Season 1 A 15-year-old girl and her trials and tribulations of being a teenager and dealing with friends, guys, parents and school.	19	1994-08-25	5.9

• The plot unfolds in Three Rivers, a fictional suburb of Pittsburgh, the second-largest city in the state of Pennsylvania.
• Due to labor laws regulating the employment of minors, Claire Danes had a reduced workday on set. This situation necessitated the hiring of additional supporting actors. This is why the series' plot focuses not only on the main character but also on the parents, as well as older actors and actresses playing teenagers.
• Claire Danes was 15 years old during filming. Her co-star, Jared Leto, was 23.
• Ricky Vasquez became the first teenage character on American network television to openly state his non-traditional sexual orientation. The role was played by actor and LGBT activist Wilson Cruz.
• University High School in Los Angeles, California, served as the setting for Liberty High School, which the series' main characters attend.
• Jared Leto's character joins the series' main cast, although it was initially intended for him to appear only in the pilot episode. The actor considered declining a long-term commitment to the main cast but ultimately agreed.
