Short description

Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects—and he’s bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But will Light succeed in his noble goal, or will the Death Note turn him into the very thing he fights against?

What's left behind the scenes

  • At the beginning of the second anime opening, the title 'Death Note' is displayed in various languages. In Russian, the authors refer to the series as 'Zapiska Angela Smerti' (Note of the Angel of Death).
  • Since 'note' is often translated from English as 'записка' (note/memo), many English-speaking fans refer to the notebook itself as the 'Notebook of Death'.
  • Some characters, specifically L, use cell phones that are very similar to the Nokia 6630.
  • The first opening contains a parody of Michelangelo Buonarroti's painting 'The Creation of Adam.' Light replaces Adam, Ryuk replaces God, and Light hands Ryuk an apple.
  • The anime takes place three years after the events of the manga—in 2007.
  • In episode 14, while Light was browsing the internet, he used a search engine called Gentle, the homepage of which closely resembles the design of the Google search engine.
  • The pilot issue of the manga states that the notebook has 60 pages with 38 lines each, and if it runs out, one can ask the Shinigami for another. The pilot also featured an eraser that could be used to erase names and bring people back to life. In the actual manga and anime, the notebook pages never run out, and the eraser does not exist.
