What's left behind the scenes
- The filming period was from June 25 to December 23, 2022.
- Lee Ji-eun was cast for the lead female role, but she left the series due to her commitment to other projects.
- Ryu Jun-yeol's character shares the same name as the author of the webtoons on which the series is based — Bae Jin-soo.
- Director Han Jae-rim was already working on a project based on the webtoon 'Money Game' (the series' original title) when 'Squid Game' was released. Since the concepts were very similar — the fewer players who reach the final, the more money they receive — it was decided to rewrite the script, incorporating the plot of another of the author's webtoons, 'Pie Game'.
- The characters' clothing was designed at the last minute. The sets had already been built and everything was ready for filming, but the director did not want to use clothes that looked like prison uniforms, which, again, would have caused involuntary associations with 'Squid Game'. Then, one of the producers suggested using white suits with fake pockets and other elements.
