What's left behind the scenes
- Joey Potter, played by Katie Holmes, is the only character in the series who appears in all 128 episodes.
- Monica Keena personally approached the show's writers with a request to 'kill off' her character, Abby Morgan. Filming was taking place in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the time, and the actress wanted to return to her boyfriend in New York as soon as possible.
- Nearly 500 actors auditioned for the role of Dawson.
- According to the plot, the series takes place in Massachusetts; however, before the characters left for college (and occasionally thereafter), most of the filming took place in the cities of Wilmington and Southport, North Carolina, USA.
- During the filming of the first season and the beginning of the second, Katie Holmes was dating her co-star Joshua Jackson.
