Short description

Orel is an 11-year-old boy who loves church. His unbridled enthusiasm for piousness and his misinterpretation of religious morals often lead to disastrous results, including self-mutilation and crack addiction. No matter how much trouble he gets into, his reverence always keeps him cheery.

What's left behind the scenes

  • According to writer and actor Scott Edsight, his relatives (all of whom were devout Christians) were so offended by the content of the episode 'God's Chef' that he was forced to leave the project. However, just a few days later, he reconciled with his family and returned to the show.
  • According to writer and actor Scott Edsight, Mike Lazzo (producer and former executive vice president in charge of the Adult Swim block on Cartoon Network) cancelled the project ahead of schedule, feeling that it was becoming too 'depressing.' The series was cancelled after Adult Swim executives were shown an early cut of the episode 'Alone,' which was indeed the darkest in the entire series; subsequently, the project was shut down, and the current season's length was cut from 20 episodes to 13.
  • During the closing credits, the boy Eagle is shown using stop-motion animation to create various projects featuring Jesus or the Lord.
  • The series began with a script that Dino Stamatopoulos wrote for Iggy Pop. The meeting with him went sideways, and the script turned into the plot concept for the episode 'Waste'.
  • After the series was cancelled, information surfaced regarding the plots of unfilmed episodes. For example, there were plans to film an episode titled 'Rape,' in which a teacher takes her students on a field trip to a prison to get to know the man who had raped her in the past.
  • Initially, the project was planned to have five seasons. By the fifth season, the main character would have evolved from a naive and innocent child into an emotionally stable adult. According to the series' director, writer, and producer Dino Stamatopoulos, the plot of the fifth season would have focused more on the other residents of the town, and the title would have been changed to 'Moralton'.
