What's left behind the scenes
- On September 11, 2003, lead actor John Ritter suddenly fell ill during a rehearsal. His colleagues immediately rushed him to the nearest hospital, but he passed away that same night from an aortic dissection caused by a congenital heart defect. Consequently, the show went on a two-month hiatus; the next episode did not air until November 4. It was unusually long (about one hour), titled 'Goodbye,' and was dedicated to Ritter's memory. As a mark of mourning, the following four episodes aired without the characteristic canned laughter.
