What's left behind the scenes

  • The change in the nature of the series over three seasons is explained by the fact that the first season was filmed by its creator, Chris Carter, who then stepped aside to work on 'The X-Files.' Executive producers Glen Morgan and James Wong became the showrunners, and under their leadership, the series shifted from the theme of serial killers toward occultism and supernatural elements in the second season in hopes of expanding the audience. Carter did not like this, so by the third season, he regained creative control, and Morgan and Wong left the project. Carter hoped to raise the series' ratings by reducing the amount of supernatural content and returning to a standard detective show, but the series was canceled after the third season anyway.
  • Lance Henriksen always maintained that his character, Frank, was not a psychic, believing that solving crimes through a degenerate mind or specially developed skills was much cooler than doing so through any supernatural abilities. He always believed that Frank's abilities stemmed from his photographic memory, a deep understanding of the dark side of human nature, and extensive experience.
  • The yellow house of the character played by Lance Henriksen in the pilot episode differs from the one shown in other episodes because the neighbors in the surrounding area did not want a film crew stationed there on a permanent basis. Subsequently, the house used in the second episode of the series "The X-Files" (1993-2018) served as the location.
  • The studio wanted to cast actor William Hurt as Frank, but Chris Carter insisted that the role go to Lance Henriksen, for whom he had written the character. Once Hurt confirmed that he would not appear in a television series, the studio agreed to Henriksen's candidacy.
  • Episode 4 of Season 7 of "The X-Files," titled "Millennium," can be associated with the series, as it features characters from this storyline and continues the plot.
  • Chris Carter held such authority at Fox that he was given an entire month to film the pilot episode with a firm promise that no one would interfere in the production process—which is practically unheard of for a new series.
