What's left behind the scenes
- The series takes its name from the real-life Wentworth prison located in New South Wales. The facility served as a prison between 1881 and 1928. It is now a tourist attraction.
- The actors and crew involved in the series visited a maximum-security women's prison in Deer Park, Victoria, Australia, where they met with correctional officers and inmates. While there, they also met Judy Moran, from the family that sparked a gang war between crime clans in Melbourne (1995-2010).
- According to the actors in the project, the first fan letters received after the first season aired came from former correctional officers, thanking them for portraying their lives and work without embellishment. One former correctional officer was even employed as a consultant for the series, as well as an extra in the first three seasons of the project.
- The series' set looked like a real prison. It even featured authentic prison door locks and shower clothing hooks. The latter were loaned to the show's creators for filming and were returned once production ended.
- During the filming of a fight scene in Season 2, Nicole Da Silva broke her wrist. Tammy McIntosh injured her nose twice during the filming of Season 4 and suffered a leg injury in Season 7.
- A former TAFE building (an association of technical and further education institutions in Australia) was used as the Wentworth prison. Before setting up the production site inside, permission had to be requested from the relevant government agencies. Seasons 1-3 were filmed in Clayton, where the set was built from scratch. Seasons 4-8 were filmed in Newport.
