What's left behind the scenes
- The Australian Broadcasting Corporation was intended to participate in the project; however, it withdrew when it was revealed that director Jane Campion had cast American Elizabeth Moss in the lead role. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation had conditioned its financial participation on the lead role being played by a resident of Australia or New Zealand. Its place in the production and financing of the project was taken by UKTV, which is owned by BBC Worldwide.
