Short description
Freddie and Stuart are an old couple who have been together for decades and bicker constantly. Their lives are turned upside down by their new upstairs neighbor Ash, who is sure to cause trouble in their mundane lives.

What's left behind the scenes
- As Ian McKellen recounted, he and Derek Jacobi, who played the series' other lead character, attended acting school together. McKellen and Jacobi fell in love at first sight, but since they did not speak openly about their homosexuality at the time, they never had an intimate relationship.
- Freddy Thornhill, played by Ian McKellen, emphasizes several times that he appeared in the series 'Doctor Who' and even ranked 10th on the list of most popular television villains. McKellen voiced the Great Intelligence in the 'Doctor Who' episode 'The Snowmen' (2012). His co-star Derek Jacobi played the role of Professor Yana/The Master in the episode 'Utopia' (2007) of the same series.
- To some extent, the series creators drew inspiration from Stanley Donen's film 'The Stairs' (1969), in which Rex Harrison (1908-1990) and Richard Burton (1925-1984) played elderly gay men—much like Freddy and Stuart in the series.
- Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi appeared in the costumes and personas of Freddy and Stuart at Eurovision on May 14, 2016.
