What's left behind the scenes
- The name of Ned's hometown is Coeur d'Coeurs, which translates from French as "Heart of Hearts."
- It was based on an unused storyline from the series 'Dead Like Me' (2003-2004), in which the character Ellen Muff was unable to reap souls because someone was bringing the dead back to life with a single touch.
- Screenwriter Bryan Fuller wrote the role of Ned for Lee Pace, but the actor's agents rejected the offer. Fuller then offered the role to Adam Brody, who declined because he didn't want to star in another series after 'The O.C.' (2003-2007). Following this, Lee Pace's manager told the actor that he should read the pilot script. He read the script and agreed to participate in the project.
