What's left behind the scenes

  • Robert Rogers (1731-1795) wrote a command manual titled "28 Rules of Ranging," which, in one form or another, is still used today by various units of the US Army, including the 75th Ranger Regiment (an airborne deep reconnaissance regiment within the US Army).
  • John Simcoe (1752-1806) is well known and remembered in Canada for his work in establishing civil society institutions and his charitable deeds. He was a steadfast supporter of abolitionism (the movement to end slavery and free slaves) and likely bore no resemblance to the embittered misanthrope portrayed in the series. Simcoe did indeed command the Rangers and later helped found the town of York, which was renamed Toronto in 1834.
