What's left behind the scenes
- After playing the scene strictly according to the script, the actors then did several more takes with deviations from the plot and improvisations to make the scene as funny as possible. This technique was suggested by producer Amy Poehler, recalling how well it had worked while working on the series 'Parks and Recreation' (2009-2015).
- The project is based on the web series of the same name (2009-2011), also created by Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson.
- The premieres of the first three seasons took place in winter, whereas the 4th season premiered in summer for the first time. Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson explained that they built the plot of the 4th season on the assumption that Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 presidential race. However, Donald Trump became the President of the United States, so they had to take a six-month break and rewrite most of the plot.
- A new animated intro is used in every episode.
- Ilana Glazer and her brother Eliot play Ilana Wexler and her brother Eliot in the series.
- Bevers is a constant presence in Abby's apartment—and, for that matter, in her life. He is the boyfriend of Melody, Abby's neighbor, who never actually appears on screen.
