What's left behind the scenes

  • In some episodes, Jamie Lee Curtis squeezed a thumbtack in her hand so that the pain would keep her from laughing.
  • Ryan Murphy refused to put the series into production without Jamie Lee Curtis. As Murphy himself recounted, he had long been a fan of the actress and dreamed of working with her; he created the series specifically for her and showered her with compliments. When Curtis came to a meeting with him and producer Brad Falchuk, Murphy told her, "There will be no project without you." It took the actress only one day to make her decision. She agreed to star in it without even seeing the script.
  • Every actress cast in the series had to master a specific walk that suited her particular character. One of the show's creators, Ryan Murphy, tirelessly told them: "Listen to music in your head when you walk." The actresses also had to practice their screaming.
  • The series 'Scream Queens' (2015) is described as a blend of Michael Lehmann's black comedy 'Heathers' (1988), Mark Waters' comedy 'Mean Girls' (2004), and Sean S. Cunningham's horror film 'Friday the 13th' (1980). Just as in 'Heathers,' where the three most beautiful (and therefore popular) girls in school are all named Heather, here Chanel Oberlin, played by Emma Roberts, also has lackeys whom she unhesitatingly calls simply Chanel No. 2, Chanel No. 3, and Chanel No. 5.
  • Lea Michele plays a freshman, although she is 10 years older than Abigail Breslin, who is her peer in the plot and with whom she starred in Garry Marshall's romantic comedy 'New Year's Eve' (2011).
  • The role of Chanel Oberlin was immediately offered to Emma Roberts, who is well known for her performance as Jill Roberts in the Wes Craven film.
  • Chanel, played by Emma Roberts, mentions Nancy Drew several times (a fictional literary and cinematic character created by Edward Stratemeyer). Roberts played Nancy in Andrew Fleming's film 'Nancy Drew' (2007).
  • Emma Roberts, Keke Palmer, and Ariana Grande began their acting careers on programs for the children's entertainment channel Nickelodeon. Roberts starred in the series 'Unfabulous' (2004-2007), Palmer starred in the sitcom 'True Jackson, VP' (2008-2011), and Grande starred in the series 'Victorious' (2010) and its spin-off 'Sam & Cat' (2013). The film 'Scream Queens' was their first joint project.
  • Members of the production crew repeatedly asked Ryan Murphy who the killer was, but he consistently remained silent.
  • The character of Chanel Oberlin is based on University of Maryland student Rebecca Martinson, whose profanity-laced email shocked the general public in 2013.
  • Initially, Julian Morris was cast as Pete, but he left the project before filming began, and the role was played by Diego Boneta.
  • The first season features 'scream queens' Abigail Breslin, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Emma Roberts. Curtis was once jokingly called a 'professional victim' because she appeared in 80 horror films that became classics of the genre.
  • Initially, Joe Manganiello was cast as Wes Gardner, but a tight filming schedule forced him to leave the project, and Gardner was played by Oliver Hudson.
  • Chanel No. 2 is named Sonya Herfman, Chanel No. 5 is Libby Putney, and Chanel No. 3 is Sadie Svenson.
  • The role of Pete was offered to David Henry, but he chose to star in Andy Fickman's comedy 'Fat Kid vs. The World' (2015).
  • Abigail Breslin is the only teenager among the actors starring in the series.
  • Actress and singer Grace Phipps, who played the role of Mandy, starred alongside Skyler Samuels in the American television series 'Chloe King' (2011).
  • Carrie Fisher, the mother of Billie Lourd, appeared in Wes Craven's film 'Scream 3' (2000), while Emma Roberts appeared in the same director's film 'Scream 4' (2011).
  • According to the initial version of the script, actress Ariana Grande was supposed to appear in the series from episode 4 to 12 of season 1. In this version of the script, her character, Chanel #2, and Lea Michele's character, Chanel #6, were meant to share a close friendship and together overthrow Chanel #1, played by Emma Roberts. Grande was unable to participate in the filming of these episodes due to her first world tour.
  • At a Television Critics Association meeting on January 15, 2016, it was announced that the series had been renewed for a second season.
  • The series mentions the following horror films: "Halloween" (John Carpenter, 1978), "Scream" (Wes Craven, 1996), "Friday the 13th" (Sean S. Cunningham, 1980), "The Evil Dead" (Sam Raimi, 1981), "Suspiria" (Dario Argento, 1977), "Hellraiser" (Clive Barker, 1987), "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (Wes Craven, 1984), "Black Christmas" (Bob Clark, 1974), "Jason X" (James Isaac, 2000), "The Toxic Avenger" (Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, 1984), "The Shining" (Stanley Kubrick, 1980), "The Grudge" (Takashi Shimizu, 2004), "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" (Tobe Hooper, 1974), "Sinister" (Scott Derrickson, 2012), "Ouija" (Stiles White, 2014), "Bloody Birthday" (Amy Holden Jones, 1982), "The Cabin in the Woods" (Drew Goddard, 2011), "Sleepaway Camp" (Robert Hiltzik, 1983), "Candyman" (Bernard Rose, 1992), "Teeth" (Mitchell Liechtenstein, 2007), "Carrie" (Brian De Palma, 1976), "Motel Hell" (Kevin Connor, 1980), "It" (David Robert Mitchell, 2014), and "Psycho" (Alfred Hitchcock, 1960).
  • Nisi Nash plays a character named Denise. "Denise" is the actress's middle name.
  • This is the second project in Emma Roberts' acting career with the word "scream" in the title. The first was Wes Craven's "Scream 4" (2011), which also takes place in a small town shaken by brutal murders. This is the third project in her career involving a series of murders, following the film "Scream" and the anthology series "American Horror Story".
  • Ariana Grande's first role in a horror movie.
  • As a teenager, Skyler Samuels played Gigi in the comedy series "Wizards of Waverly Place" (2007-2012).
  • This is the second time in Nisi Nash's acting career that she has played a police officer. She first appeared on screen in such a role in the series 'Reno 911!' (2003-2009).
  • Abigail Breslin and Julia Roberts starred together in John Wells' tragicomedy 'August: Osage County' (2013). Emma Roberts is Julia Roberts' niece.
  • Abigail Breslin and Kate Hudson starred together in Garry Marshall's romantic comedy 'Yours, Mine & Ours' (2004). Kate is the younger sister of Oliver Hudson, who plays the role of Weston 'Wes' Gardner in the series.
  • Skyler Samuels and Lucien Lavisconte knew Ryan Murphy before working on the series 'Scream Queens'. Samuels played Bonnie Lipton in 'American Horror Story', and Lavisconte auditioned for a role in the series 'Losers' (2009-2015).
  • The series features mises-en-scènes that pay tribute to iconic horror films that have become classics of the genre: 'Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Terror' (Michael A. Simpson, 1989), 'Boogeyman' (Stephen T. Kay, 2005), 'Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday' (Adam Marcus, 1993), 'Psycho' (Alfred Hitchcock, 1960), 'Carrie' (Brian De Palma, 1976), 'The Silence of the Lambs' (Jonathan Demme, 1990), 'Black Christmas' (Bob Clark, 1974), 'Halloween' (John Carpenter, 1978), 'Hellraiser' (Clive Barker, 1987), 'Friday the 13th' (Sean Cunningham, 1980), 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' (Wes Craven, 1984), 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre' (Tobe Hooper, 1974), and 'The Shining' (Stanley Kubrick, 1980).
  • At the moment when the Devil reads the reply sent by the heroine, Ariana Grande, it can be seen that he is holding the phone upside down.
