Short description

At the dawn of the 20th century, Indiana Jones discovered the world. From globetrotting family expeditions as a 9-year-old to the battlefields of World War I as a teenager, Indy’s experiences shaped the heroic, whip-cracking archaeologist he would become. At every turn, Indy encounters history in the making, meeting true-life activists, soldiers, writers, artists, and thinkers who helped influence the world we live in today.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The role of the adult Indiana Jones was offered to Harrison Ford, but the actor declined, convinced that appearing in a television series would contribute nothing to his career advancement.
  • George Lucas compiled a chronological list of events in Indiana Jones' life, starting from 1905 up until the adventures shown in the feature films. This would have been enough for approximately 70 episodes. Each such plot sketch included the location, date, and the corresponding age of the main character, as well as a list of historical figures he was destined to encounter. The sketch was then passed to the screenwriters. By the time the series was canceled, 28 episodes had been filmed.
  • Both seasons were filmed out of order and without regard for chronology; consequently, Corey Carrier, who played Indiana Jones between the ages of 8 and 10, appears older in some scenes and younger in others. During the production of the TV movies that followed the series, additional scenes were filmed to connect various episodes and events, leading to even greater inconsistencies in the actors' on-screen ages.
  • George Lucas chose director John Ford (1894-1973) as the prototype for the 93-year-old Indiana Jones with an eyepatch, played by George Hall.
  • The series was filmed across 23 countries. The crew traveled a total distance nearly equal to six trips around the world. Filming lasted for 152 weeks. At the time of the series' release, this was the longest on-location shoot in cinematic history.
