What's left behind the scenes
- Ilya Baskin, who played a Soviet defector scientist in the series, played a similar defector in the television series 'MacGyver' (1985-1992).
- In the 16th episode of the 1st season, Mac and Jack are interrogated by Mrs. Colton. A photo of a bulldog named Toad is visible behind her. This is a reference to the original series, where the Coltons had a bulldog with the same name.
- When Director Thornton first appears on screen, Mac calls her Mrs. Elkar. This is a tribute to Dan Elkar (1927-2005), who played Thornton in the original series.
- Starting with the title of Season 1, Episode 12, every subsequent episode is named after one of the tools in MacGyver's Swiss Army knife.
