What's left behind the scenes
- In the very first episode, Dirk and Todd, played by Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood, nearly run over a man. This is Gordon Rimmer, and it is his first appearance on screen.
- At the very beginning of filming, Samuel Barnett slipped, fell, and injured his right shoulder (the injury eventually required surgery). He appeared in several episodes keeping the arm still, with a stunt double filling in as needed, but it was later decided to write the shoulder injury into the script.
- The series is based on the eponymous book series by English writer Douglas Adams.
- To create one of the props, a steampunk-style taser crossbow, Max Landis reached out to Adam Savage from the show 'MythBusters.' After filming ended, he sent the weapon to Savage as payment.
