What's left behind the scenes

  • The director considers the role of Bree Van de Kamp to be the most successful casting in the series, as over seven famous actresses auditioned for it: Kim Cattrall, Rosanna Arquette, Helen Hunt, Cindy Margulis, Christine Davis, Katie Sagal, and Nicolette Sheridan, who shortly thereafter landed the role of the bitchy businesswoman Edie Britt.
  • Before casting began for the lead roles, screenwriter Marc Cherry suggested to the director that they cast the women from the series "Sex and the City" (1998-2004): Sarah Jessica Parker (Susan Mayer), Cynthia Nixon (Bree Van de Kamp), Christine Davis (Gabrielle Solis), and Kim Cattrall (Lynette Scavo).
  • Playboy legend Pamela Anderson was invited to play the role of Edie Britt.
  • The series made its stunningly successful debut on the American network ABC.
  • Jennifer Tilly was invited to voice Mary Alice Young, but declined the offer for unknown reasons.
  • The original comedic version of the series script was not liked by companies such as Lifetime and HBO, so the script had to be rewritten. ABC expressed interest in the series with its dramatic foundation and a light touch of black humor.
  • According to Marc Cherry, the idea for the first episode came to him after a conversation with his mother, who said that raising children alone, without a husband, had driven her to despair.
  • Oprah Winfrey is such a big fan of the series that she was specially invited to the set. They even filmed a 15-minute episode in which Oprah's character discovers all the secrets of the residents of Wisteria Lane.
  • Courteney Cox-Arquette, star of the series 'Friends', was initially invited for the role of Susan Mayer, but the actress was forced to decline due to her pregnancy.
  • In the 17th episode of the first season, when Andrew is lying on the bed watching TV, 'Lost' is playing on the screen.
  • According to the script, Bree Van de Kamp's son Andrew was supposed to die from a drug overdose. The authors borrowed this idea from Quentin Tarantino.
  • Bree tells Andrew, 'I'd love you even if you were a murderer!' The same words were spoken to Mark Cherry's son by his mother when he confessed his non-traditional sexual orientation to her.
  • Teri Hatcher broke two ribs while filming the scene where Susan falls into the wedding cake. The actress insisted that filming continue.
  • In one of the episodes, while Tom is brushing his teeth, the toothpaste is first on one edge of the sink, in the next shot it's on the other, and then it returns to its original place.
  • In one of the episodes describing how the neighbors met, a scene with Tom and Lynette Scavo clearly shows that when Lynette first found out she was pregnant with twins, they had already bought the house on Wisteria Lane; however, in the 17th episode of the final season, at Mike's funeral, Lynette reminisces about her marriage to Tom, where Tom and Lynette (already well into her pregnancy) had only just bought the house on Wisteria Lane.
