What's left behind the scenes
- Nancy Travis was unable to play Lisa in the 3rd season due to her commitment to the series 'The Last Man on Earth' (2011-2021) and COVID-19 restrictions.
- It is claimed that Netflix suggested filming longer seasons starting after the 2nd, but Michael Douglas (who played Sandy Kominsky) insisted that the seasons remain at 8 episodes each.
- When the start of work on the 3rd and final season was announced, it became known that Alan Arkin, who played Norman, had informed the producers during the filming of the 2nd season that he would be leaving the project at the end of that season. When asked why his character had not been written out of the storyline, the response was that no one really knew if a 3rd season would ever actually be filmed, so they decided to leave Norman alone just in case.
