Honey

Honey Daniels is a young dancer and choreographer in New York City who teaches at a community center in Harlem while she tries to break into the music video business. Her ambition is to make a living from dance, and she spends her nights in clubs looking for a way in. The chance comes when a video director hires her, but his expectations of her go beyond the professional, and she turns him down. That decision costs her the work she had been chasing and pushes her to build something of her own: a place where the teenagers she teaches can dance. Chaz, her boyfriend, and her mother are part of the life she is trying to hold together while she works out what her career should be.

Bille Woodruff directed the film, his first, from a screenplay by Alonzo Brown and Kim Watson. It was followed by several other films he directed, among them Beauty Shop, Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, Honey 2 and later Honey 3: Dare to Dance and Honey: Rise Up and Dance. Jessica Alba plays Honey, with Mekhi Phifer, Romeo Miller, Joy Bryant, David Moscow and Lonette McKee in supporting roles.

Produced by Universal Pictures with Marc Platt Productions and NuAmerica Entertainment, the film cost about 18 million dollars and took roughly 63 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.4 from about 49,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4 from around 1,262 votes. A critics' rating of 4.3 from 112 reviews puts it below the audience scores.
