Short description
In New Orleans, a group of teenagers becomes obsessed with an underground horror video game centered on a mysterious 17th-century noblewoman. They soon discover a lethal connection between the virtual world and reality, as those who die within the game are killed in real life in the same manner as their digital characters. The friends must find a way to defeat the antagonist to avoid the same fate.
Directed by William Brent Bell, this 2006 production marks the first film in a directorial sequence that includes The Devil Inside and The Boy. The screenplay was written by Bell and Matthew Peterman. The cast features Jon Foster, Samaire Armstrong, Frankie Muniz, Sophia Bush, Jimmi Simpson, and Adam Goldberg.

- Countess Elizabeth Báthory (1560-1614) is a historical figure who lived in the Kingdom of Hungary. In the film, she was relocated to New Orleans.
- The filmmakers planned to make an R-rated film (under 17 requires accompanying parent or guardian), but the studio insisted on a PG-13 rating (parents strongly cautioned). Later, 15 minutes of footage cut to avoid an R rating were restored in the director's cut.
