The Golden Child

A thousand generations produce one child born with extraordinary powers, a figure revered in Tibet as the Golden Child. When he is abducted by a sinister sorcerer, the fate of the world is thrown into doubt. In Los Angeles, a young woman named Kee Nang approaches Chandler Jarrell, a social worker who specialises in tracing missing children and has appeared on television discussing that work. She believes he is the one foretold to rescue the boy, though Chandler is sceptical about magic and his own supposed destiny. His doubts gradually give way as the case draws him into a world of supernatural forces.

The film is directed by Michael Ritchie, the ninth of the fifteen features he directed in chronological order, following Fletch and preceding Wildcats. Dennis Feldman wrote the screenplay, and Eddie Murphy stars as Chandler Jarrell, with Charles Dance as the antagonist Sardo Numspa, Charlotte Lewis as Kee Nang, J.L. Reate as the Golden Child, Victor Wong and Randall 'Tex' Cobb. It is an American production from Paramount, Eddie Murphy Productions and Feldman/Meeker Productions, running 94 minutes.
