The Princess and the Frog

Set in New Orleans during the jazz age, The Princess and the Frog follows Tiana, a hardworking waitress and cook who is saving toward a restaurant of her own, a dream she once shared with her father. Her plans are interrupted by the arrival of Prince Naveen of Maldonia, who is lured into a trap by the voodoo sorcerer Dr. Facilier and turned into a frog. Mistaking Tiana for a princess at a masquerade ball, Naveen persuades her to kiss him; instead of restoring him, the kiss transforms her as well. The pair set off through the Louisiana bayous seeking a way to become human again, joined by a trumpet-playing alligator named Louis and Ray, a firefly.

Ron Clements and John Musker directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Rob Edwards, with Peter Del Vecho producing. The film came after their Treasure Planet and before Moana in a long directing partnership that also includes The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Hercules. Anika Noni Rose voices Tiana, Bruno Campos voices Naveen, and Keith David voices Dr. Facilier, with Michael-Leon Wooley, Jim Cummings and Jennifer Cody among the credited cast of 33.

Made for about 105 million dollars, the film took roughly 267 million dollars worldwide. It holds a 7.2 rating on IMDb from around 185,000 votes and the same score on TMDB from a much smaller base, while critics rated it 7.5 from 201 reviews, a slightly warmer reception than audiences gave it.
