Quadrophenia

Set in mid-1960s London, Quadrophenia follows Jimmy Cooper, a young man stuck in a dead-end job who finds escape in the Mod scene. Dressed in tailored suits and riding a scooter, he spends his nights with his Mod friends, listening to music and taking pills. A trip to Brighton for a showdown with rival Rockers marks a turning point, and Jimmy begins to see that the rebellious world he has built his identity around rests on shaky ground.

The film is based on The Who's 1973 rock opera of the same name, which also supplies its soundtrack, and was produced in part by the band's own company. Franc Roddam directed, working from a screenplay he wrote with Martin Stellman and Dave Humphries. It was the second feature he directed, arriving between Dummy in 1977 and The Lords of Discipline in 1983. Phil Daniels leads as Jimmy, with Leslie Ash, Phil Davis, Mark Wingett and Ray Winstone among the cast, and Sting, frontman of The Police, appears as Ace Face. Thirty-five actors and forty-five crew members are credited.

Made for around 3 million USD, the film took in roughly 1 million USD worldwide on its 1979 release. Its audience rating on TMDB is 7 out of 10 from over 300 votes, and its critics' rating stands at 7.4 out of 10 from 15 reviews, placing the two measures close together.
