My Father the Hero

André, a divorced concert pianist, takes his fourteen-year-old daughter Nicole on a Caribbean vacation, hoping to reconnect with a girl he has barely seen since his marriage ended. Nicole resents being treated like a child and is determined to enjoy herself, and she soon becomes interested in Ben, a slightly older young man she meets on the island. Eager to impress him without admitting she is on holiday with her father, she invents an elaborate story in which André is not her parent but her lover and an international spy, and the two of them are posing as father and daughter to hide his identity. André, bewildered by the role she forces on him, plays along with mounting embarrassment.

The film is a Hollywood remake of a French comedy that also starred Gérard Depardieu, who here plays André. Steve Miner directed; it was the seventh of the thirteen films he directed, following Forever Young and preceding Big Bully. Katherine Heigl plays Nicole, with Dalton James as Ben, and Lauren Hutton and Faith Prince in supporting roles. It was released in February 1994 and runs ninety minutes.

On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.5 from around 12,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 5.4 from 223 votes. A critics' rating of 4.3 from fourteen reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores.
