Point of No Return

Point of No Return follows Maggie Hayward, a drug-addicted young woman whose violent robbery of a pharmacy ends with her killing a police officer. Sentenced to death, she is surprised to wake up after what turns out to be a faked execution. A government operative named Bob offers her a choice: be trained as a covert assassin for the United States, or face a real death sentence. She accepts and is remade, physically and socially, with Bob and the elegant Amanda teaching her to pass as a refined woman while carrying out quiet eliminations under the code name Nina. Her controlled existence is upended when she meets J.P., a photographer, and the relationship threatens the arrangement her employers have imposed on her.

John Badham directed the film, the tenth of the fifteen features he directed in chronological order, arriving between The Hard Way and Another Stakeout. Alexandra Seros and Robert Getchell wrote the screenplay, and Art Linson produced for Warner Bros. Pictures and The Linson Company. Bridget Fonda leads as Maggie, with Gabriel Byrne as Bob, Dermot Mulroney as J.P., Miguel Ferrer as Kaufman, Anne Bancroft as Amanda and Olivia d'Abo as Angela. Twenty-two cast members and forty-eight crew members are credited.

Released in March 1993, the film took about 30 million dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.2 out of 10 from 771 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5.5 out of 10 from 25 reviews, placing the two measures fairly close together.
