Frequency

John Sullivan is a New York police officer still haunted by the death of his father Frank, a firefighter killed thirty years earlier in a warehouse blaze. One night, an unusual atmospheric phenomenon lets John reach his father through an old ham radio set, and the two men find they can speak to each other across three decades. John uses the chance to warn Frank about the mistakes that led to his death, and the firefighter survives. The change does not come without consequences, as altering the past sets off a chain of killings, and father and son must work together across their separate eras to undo the damage.

Gregory Hoblit directed the film, his third feature after Primal Fear and Fallen, from a screenplay by Toby Emmerich, who also produced alongside Hawk Koch and Hoblit. Dennis Quaid plays Frank and Jim Caviezel plays John, with Elizabeth Mitchell, Andre Braugher, Shawn Doyle and Noah Emmerich among the supporting cast. The production, made by New Line Cinema, carried a budget of 31 million dollars and took about 68 million dollars worldwide.

Frequency was released on April 28, 2000, and runs 118 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.4 from roughly 123,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.3 from about 2,109 votes. A critics' rating of 6.9 from 125 reviews places it close to the audience scores, suggesting a broadly similar reception across both groups.
