Boys and Girls

Ryan and Jennifer have known each other since childhood, and their earliest encounters went badly, with the two disliking each other on sight. Meeting again as teenagers does nothing to improve matters. It is only at college, where their paths cross once more, that the uptight Ryan and the free-spirited Jennifer begin to see past their differences and form an unlikely friendship, one that deepens as they confide in each other about their romantic troubles and eventually raises the question of whether they are meant to be something more. Ryan's roommate Hunter, an inventive schemer, features in their college years.

Robert Iscove directed the film, working from a screenplay by Andrew Miller and Andrew Lowery. It followed Iscove's She's All That (1999) and came before Spectacular! (2009) in the features he directed. Freddie Prinze Jr. plays Ryan, with Claire Forlani as Jennifer, and Jason Biggs, Amanda Detmer and Alyson Hannigan among the supporting cast.

Released in June 2000, the film runs 94 minutes. Made for a budget of 35 million USD, it took in about 26 million USD worldwide, less than its production cost. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.4/10 from around 18,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6/10 from roughly 432 votes. A critics' rating of 4.7/10 from 62 reviews places it below the audience scores.
