Private Popsicle continues the Israeli teen comedy series centred on three friends, Bobby, Benji and Hughie, who here trade the beach for barracks life. Called up for military service, they show little interest in discipline or duty. Their attention goes instead to women, including a group of young women stationed nearby, and to finding ways around their sergeant's authority. Masquerades and schemes meant to bring them closer to the women repeatedly land them in trouble rather than out of it.
Boaz Davidson directed and co-wrote the film with Eli Tavor, and it followed Hot Bubblegum and The Last American Virgin in his run of features, arriving the same year as the latter. Yftach Katzur, Zachi Noy and Jonathan Sagall return as the three leads, with Sonja Martin, Menashe Warshavsky and Bea Fiedler in supporting roles. It was produced by Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus through Cannon Group and Golan-Globus Productions, with German and Israeli backing.
The comedy was released in December 1982 and runs 96 minutes. Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.4 from around 1,600 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8 from a much smaller group of 52 ratings.
