After the Sunset
Short description
After the Sunset follows Max Burdett, a career thief who has settled with his partner Lola on a tropical island, apparently leaving crime behind after one final job. Stan Lloyd, the FBI agent who has spent years pursuing him, turns up on the same island convinced the pair are planning another robbery. Talk of a valuable diamond aboard a cruise ship anchored nearby keeps the three of them circling each other, though the island also brings them into contact with local criminal figures.
Brett Ratner directed the film, the sixth of the thirteen features he has made and the one that followed Red Dragon and preceded X-Men: The Last Stand. Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek Pinault play Max and Lola, with Woody Harrelson as Stan Lloyd, Don Cheadle as Henri Mooré, Naomie Harris as Sophie and Troy Garity as Luc. Craig Rosenberg and Paul Zbyszewski wrote the screenplay, and Beau Flynn, Tripp Vinson and Jay Stern produced.
The film was made for about 60 million US dollars and took roughly 61 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from around 53,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from about 900 votes. A critics' rating of 4.7 out of 10 from 136 reviews places it below those audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film was shot in rather cold weather, and in some scenes the special effects artists had to remove the steam coming from the actors' mouths.
- Pierce Brosnan and Brett Ratner hoped to film the next James Bond movie, but this idea did not find support from the franchise producers, and instead of another Bond film, they made this picture.
