The Six Triple Eight

The Six Triple Eight is a World War II drama about the only battalion of Black women in the U.S. Army sent overseas during the conflict. Assigned to a facility in England, the unit faces a monumental task: clearing a three-year backlog of mail that never reached American soldiers, with a deadline of six months. The women work under discrimination and difficult conditions while handling more than seventeen million pieces of correspondence, sorting letters that carry morale and connection to troops far from home. The film follows their efforts through the experiences of Charity Adams, who leads the battalion, and Lena Derriecott King, a young soldier.

Tyler Perry directed and wrote the screenplay, the twenty-first of the twenty-nine films he has directed in chronological order, arriving between Mea Culpa and Tyler Perry's Divorce in the Black, both from 2024. Kerry Washington plays Adams, with Sam Waterston and Susan Sarandon as Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, Dean Norris as General Halt, Oprah Winfrey as Mary McLeod Bethune, and Ebony Obsidian as Derriecott King. The production involved 63 credited cast members and 175 credited crew.

Released in December 2024, the film runs 130 minutes. On IMDb it holds a 6.7 rating from roughly 32,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a 7.6 from about 733 votes. A critics' rating of 5.6 from 57 reviews places it below the audience scores.
